When are taxes turned over to the Chancery Court for collection?
One year following delinquency. For example, the taxes that were originally billed in October first become delinquent on March 1 of the next year. They will be filed in our office by April 1 of the following year.
What fees are added when taxes are filed in Chancery Court?
Court costs of $44.00, a 10% attorney fee (of the base tax) and, in the case of County and City of Eagleville taxes, a $125.00 title search fee are added on the date of filing. Interest continues to accrue in the amount of 1.5% per month. Additional costs will be added when the suit is filed to sell the property.

How late do the taxes have to be before they can be sold?
Once taxes are filed in Chancery Court, action may immediately be taken to begin the process of adding the property to the tax auction list.
I am interested in purchasing property at a tax sale. How can I be notified of tax sales?
Call our office at (615) 898-7860, Ext. 4153 to be added to our email notification list. The information will also be posted on this website and the county’s website approximately one month before the sale.
Where is the tax auction held?
The property is sold via online auction which takes place on the GovEase website at www.GovEase.com. THERE IS NO PHYSICAL LOCATION AND NO IN-PERSON COMPONENT TO THE REGISTRATION OR BIDDING PROCESS.
How do I register for the tax auction?
Approximately a month before the auction, registration documents will be E-Mailed to those who are on the E-Mail notification list. They will also be posted here. These documents must be filled out and submitted to GovEase through their website along with any other required documents listed in the registration forms. Your registration will be reviewed once all documents are submitted.
Can I purchase property for back taxes over the counter?
No, not in Tennessee. You must participate in the tax sale.
I received a bill for delinquent personal property taxes, but I am no longer in business. Am I responsible for them?
If you were in business as of January 1 of that tax year, you are responsible for them. You must notify the tax assessor’s office when you close your business to keep from being assessed each year.
What happens to property that does not sell at the tax sale?
If a property were to not sell during the tax auction it would be re-listed at a subsequent tax auction until sold.
May I make partial payments on taxes filed in Chancery Court.
No. There is no statute allowing this office to accept partial payments.
Can I view/pay my delinquent taxes online?
Yes. Delinquent taxes may be searched and paid online at rcchancery.com.
Do you have a list of delinquent tax properties?
If you go to rcchancery.com and click on the link that says, “Search and Pay Delinquent Taxes” and put two asterisks (**) in the search bar, all delinquent tax properties held in Chancery Court will be pulled up. You will be able to filter the results by real property, personal property, year of delinquency, and paid or unpaid status. We maintain this list in digital formal for the public.
